He trained as an illustrator and graphic designer at an early age, developing his aesthetic eye for design. Seeing the link between design and economics, he went on to achieve worldwide success, and is perhaps best known today for Mazetti's cocoa. Olle Eksell is considered one of the first modern graphic designers in Sweden. He was a true artist who loved his craft and could never stop creating. Over the years, he has produced countless motifs that oscillate between the crazy, imaginative directness and the geometrically abstract. Already as a 14-year-old, Olle Eksell decided to become an advertising illustrator. After he trained as an illustrator and graphic designer, Olle Eksell took on a job at the advertising agency Ervaco, where he also met his future wife and life partner Ruthel Eksell. After the couple married, they took the boat over to the US to study design at The Art Centre College of Design in Los Angeles. After his studies, Olle Eksell did extensive work for several companies and he has certainly made a big impression in Swedish advertising history. He is probably best known for the Mazetti confectionery design programme of 1956. It was here that he created the graphic eye for Mazetti's cocoa packaging and managed to turn around the company's negative sales trend. Today, the "Cacao" eyes are a true design classic, as are many of Olle Eksell's other designs.
